June McAbee, affectionately know as Nanna, is a storyteller extraordinaire. She has been weaving her blend of folk tales ever since 1966 when she began teaching in Montgomery County Public School System.

To Enhance her stellar performance, Nanna discovered that by incorporating the talents of her husband James, (who is introduced to the audience as Daddy Jim on the Ashika drums), she could involve children in hand clapping, leg slapping, and foot tapping. Daddy Jim sure knows how to beat out the rhythms and he opens every storytelling event with the sounds of Africa.

Nanna's repertoire includes Fractured Fairy Tales, Stories from Around the World, and the celebration of African American History. Traditional favorites such as Anansi the Spider, the use of hand and stringed puppets, and the inclusion of non-conventional instruments renders Nanna's performances suitable for all age groups, including the special needs children.
